An apartment building fire in Peotone (Saturday) left one person dead. The victim was found dead in a structure on S. Schroeder Avenue. The Peotone Fire Protection District (PFPD) issued a press release about the early morning fire, which alerted several emergency response units.

The State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating.

The Red Cross is assisting several other occupants of the building who were forced from the structure. The Fire District reported most damage from the fire was contained to the one apartment, but smoke and water damage extended to the other apartment units.

Two MABAS Divisions (19 and 27) responded along with fire units from Will and Kankakee Counties.
