--Police need public help--

Illinois State Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle that struck and killed a pedestrian on I-57 near Rantoul last night. The victim was identified as 21-year-old Francis Edelen, a U of I student and wrestler, from Manhattan (IL).

The accident occurred near milepost 253.5 near Rantoul. The vehicle that hit the victim left the scene.

Troopers were on the scene of two separate crashes on the interstate between Champaign and Paxton.

Police were called to a 2-vehicle crash just before 9:40 pm on southbound I-57. The investigation revealed one of the drivers left the scene on foot, possibly to flag down help or get a ride. A short distance from the crash site, the pedestrian (Edelen) was hit and killed by an unknown vehicle in the right lane of traffic.
