An early-morning vehicle fire in Kankakee Sunday left a man dead. 57-year-old Donald Whitaker was identified by the County Coroner. He was trapped inside an R-V, according Fire Chief Damon Schuldt.
Firemen responded to the 100-block of W. Oak Street about 4:40 am. The van was found fully involved. The victim was found inside. No foul play is suspected. An autopsy was planned. Kankakee city police also investigated.
