Two people died in a crash on I-57 near the Kankakee-Will County line early Sunday. 33-year-old Lester Chapel of Bourbonnais and 41-year-old Laura de Jesus were pronounced dead at the scene. Illinois State Police and the Will County Coroner's Office reported one vehicle was disabled after striking the median barrier when a second northbound vehcile hit the disabled unit while its driver was standing outside the car.
In Champaign County, an autopsy was scheduled for a man whose body was found along I-57 near Thomasboro. It was a passerby who reported a vehicle in a ditch. The driver, was found on the pavement's shoulder, appareantly a hit-and-run victim. Police said 32-year-old Kendrick Jones of Little Rock, Arkansas was found around 4 am Monday. State Police are asking the public to come forward if they know anything about the accident.
