The Village of Crescent City welcomes visitors Sunday to its annual Father's Day Community Worship to reflect on the memories and blessings of Father's Day 1970. A Father's Day train derailment nearly took the Iroquois County town off the map. A derailment and explosions brought emergency responders from near and far. The event made news across the state and country. Fortuneately, no one was killed. Today -- the small town continues to prosper, thanks to the community members and the blessings of support throughout Iroquois County.
A community worship service every year since brings the folks together. Sunday's (June 16) service at 10:15 am is under the pavilion at Heritage Park. A freewill offerng finds donations going to local food pantries.
Four churches participate in the service --- St. Peter Lutheran Church, St. Joseph Catholic Church, and United Methodist Church, all of Crescent City and also St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Woodworth.
The public is welcome to attend. Visitors are urged to bring chairs, water and umbrella. Seating is limited.
