Female Body found near Hoopeston; Autopsy scheduled

Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson confirms an autopsy is planned today (Mon) on the body of a female found Sunday in a wooded area, east of Hoopeston.

The coroner nor investigators would say, for sure, if the body is that of Amanda “Mandy” Walters-Pentecost. The 33-year-old woman from Watseka has been the subject of a search since she disappeared February 1st.

Sheriff’s Police, Hoopeston Police and the Coroner were on the scene of the discovery. Chief Sheriff’s Investigator Rod Kaag says a man hunting deer antlers found the remains in a wooded area, a half mile east of Hoopeston, and a half-mile south of Illinois route 9.

The Vermilion County Coroner’s Office ordered the autopsy in an effort to determine how the woman died.
The Chief Sheriff’s Investigator would not say whether authorities believe the victim is Miss Pentecost.
