Fire at senior living facility in Newton County

Officials in Goodland, IN say one man was injured when a recliner fire damaged an apartment at a senior-living facility Thursday.

The un-identified man suffered burns when he tried to put the fire out himself. The fire was at the Ashland Place Senior Homes on North Iroquois Street.

The injured person was airlifted to a hospital. His condition wasn’t known. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Goodland Fire Chief Jeff Miiller said the man who lived in the apartment was away shopping. He returned home to find the apartment on fire. He was injured trying to put the flames out.

The fire was contained to the living room of the apartment.
