At 4:50 PM on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 the Newton County Sheriff’s Department 911 center received a call advising of a fire in the second story of his home located at 304 East Grove Street Morocco.
Morocco Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched with automatic mutual aid from Brook-Iroquois Township Volunteer Fire Department. On the arrival of Morocco Fire Fighters, fire and smoke were visible coming from a second story window. The occupants of the home were alerted by a pet to the fire and escaped without injury.
The fire was found to have originated from a second floor bedroom and had spread to the attic. Fire fighters extinguished the fire at approximately 5:15PM.
The bedroom was heavily damaged by fire, a second bedroom was damaged by heat and smoke and other portions of the home sustained smoke and water damage. The fire has displaced the resident’s from their home. Fire Fighters remained on-scene until 8:00 pm assuring no further fire spread and assisting the residents of the home.
The investigation is ongoing.
