Volunteer firefighters from four departments responded to a house fire in Melvin (Wednesday night). No one was injured. The vacant home on S. Green Street was destroyed.

The State Fire Marshall is investigating.

Some two-dozen firemen from Melvin, Roberts, Elliott and Gibson City were on the scene for about four hours.

Fire does $25,000 in damage to Kankakee apartment building

Arson may have been responsible for an overnight fire (Wednesday) in Kankakee that did an estimated $25,000 in damage to the Crestlane Apartments. Fire officials report damage was limited to much of the office space. No injury was reported.
