Fire officials advise public to be alert for brush fires

The dry, warmer weather, coupled with windy conditions has fire department officials asking the public to be aware of the potential of brush fires. Rural departments have been busy with field fires the last several days in Iroquois, Kankakee and Vermilion counties. Fires have also been reported in Newton, Jasper and Carroll counties in Indiana.

A home was destroyed after a trash fire got out of control in Carroll County, IN.

It happened Monday afternoon on County Road 600 South.
Burlington firefighters said a trash fire got out of control. By the time they arrived, it had already spread to the second floor of the house.

All of the residents and their pets made it out safely.
