Firemen injured battling house fire in Kankakee

Minor injuries reported to two firemen during response to a structure fire Thursday evening. Three children and two dogs escaped from the 2-unit home in the 700-block of S. Wildwood. Damage estimates were placed at $175,000. The cause appeared to be electrical but remains under investigation.

Kankakee Fire Chief Bryan LaRoche said the call was answered at 7:15 pm. Departments responding included Wilmington, Momence, Manteno, Bourbonnais, Bradley, Kankakee Township and Limestone. Firemen were at the scene for four hours.

Residents from both units were displaced. No other injuries were reported.
