Early morning thunder showers produced reports of up to 1.5 inches of rain in parts of western Iroquois County and sections of Livingston County today (Tuesday).

Then later, the National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for northern Vermilion County effective until 12:30 pm. Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms produced heavy rain across the warned area, which extended to I-74. Rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches have been estimated by radar since 7 am. north of Interstate 74 in the Royal and Potomac areas.

Additional thunderstorms further north have produced 2 to 3 inches of rain southwest of Hoopeston.

Flash flooding was expected for areas near Hoopeston, Rossville, Potomac, Fithian, Muncie and Oakwood. The flooding also pegged areas near Bismarck, Henning, Collison, Danville, and Alvin.

A Flood Advisory was also in effect for portions of East-Central Illinois. It included southwest Vermilion County and southeastern Champaign County.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall could cause flooding of small creeks and streams...as well as farm and country roads.
