Flood advisories for Momence, Wilmington
The Kankakee River at Shelby was under a flood warning until further notice Monday due to weekend rains and melting snow.
The National Weather Service said the river was at 10.2 feet at 6:45 a.m. Monday morning. Flood stage is 9 feet.
Minor flooding was occurring Monday morning and only minor flooding was forecast.
The river is expected to rise slightly to a crest of 10.3 feet by midnight Tuesday, but the National Weather Service warned ice jams were also possible. Ice jams can cause rapid fluctuations in river levels.
At 10 feet, the Kankakee River at Shelby can cause flooding that impacts local and county roads. Wildwood Estates and Sumava Resorts experience minor flooding as well.
The NWS has Flood Advisories on the Kankakee River at Momence and Wilmington. The Wilmington site is until Tuesday morning. The advisory at Momence is until Wednesday evening.
