Iroquois, Kankakee, Vermilion Counties on alert

Officials are monitoring the weather-graphs. Waterways in east-central Illinois and into Indiana could very well be affected by an abundant amount of rainfall through Saturday. The National Weather Service has issued Flood Warnings for areas along the Iroquois and Kankakee Rivers, the Vermilion River at Danville and Sugar Creek at Milford in Iroquois County.

Citizens living along the flood-prone areas need to be aware and take action, if necessary.

The flood stage for Sugar Creek at Milford is 18-feet. The NWS says the river is expected to rise to near 24.5 feet by Sunday evening. At 25-foot mark, structures are threatened in southwest parts of Watseka, County Road 980N west of Milford is threatened, and widespread flooding of agricultural land becomes obvious.

The merger of Sugar Creek with the Iroquois River is where issues are elevated in Watseka and beyond.

The call, from meteorologists at this point, is for 3-4 plus inches of rain and then some snowy mix by Monday. The Kankakee River is under a flood warning for northwest Indiana -- from Dunns Bridge at Kouts to I-65 at Demotte. (The warning kicks in Monday). Indiana’s also under the gun for the Iroquois River from Rensselaer to Foresman, in Newton County.

Illinois counties along the two rivers will be affected.

The flood stage for the Vermilion River at Danville is 18-feet.. Moderate flooding is forecast as the river rises to near 22.5 feet by Sunday evening The river will fall back below flood stage by Monday evening.
