Flooding leads to Bridge Collapse in Grundy County

A bridge collapse near Seneca (IL) earlier this morning forced emergency response teams into action. Several individuals had to be rescued from their vehicles after flash flooding caused wash-outs. A truck driver had to be rescued on River Road when he became stranded after a bridge collapse. Seneca Fire Lieutenant Nick Roseland said three individuals were rescued from their stranded vehicles in the area of DuPont Road and Kinsman Roads.

No injuries were reported.

Local officials report upwards of 3 to 6.5 inches of rain fell overnight.  Roads in Grundy, LaSalle and Livingston Counties were affected. Officials report some locations that will continue to experience flooding include Marseilles, Seneca, Ransom and Kinsman. This also includes the Marseilles State Fish and Wildlife Area and the LaSalle Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area.

Local officials remind motorists to turn around when encountering flooded roads and do not go around barricades.
