The Illinois Department of Transportation reported a 20-car pileup on I-57 Thursday evening that shut down traffic in the northbound lanes. The accident happened near Peotone around 5 p.m.

A State police spokesperson said there was a report at the scene that at least one car was lodged under a semi-truck and that a tanker truck was on fire.

Smoke from the fires and fog reduced visibility.
