Ford County Board to hire a lawyer to dissolve health department, if necessary

The possible dissolution of the Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department pushed the Ford County Board to take action.

The County Board (Monday) voted unanimously to authorize Chairman Rick Bowen to enter into an agreement with an attorney who would handle any legal process of dissolving the two-county health department.

The attorney's help will only be necessary should either of the two county boards take the step to dissolve the health department.

A committee comprising members of both the Ford and Iroquois county boards agreed last month to send a recommendation to both boards, plus the bi-county board of health, to look into the advantages and any negatives of dissolving the health department. The six-member oversight committee expects both county boards and the health board to discuss the issue and make their own recommendations by mid-October.
