Ford County Board votes to not recommend hog facility be built

A proposed hog-operation near Sibley will not be recommended by the Ford County Board. After hearing from several people, including Sibley Village trustees, the County Board (Monday) voted to not recommend the Illinois Department of Agriculture give its blessing to the idea.

Village trustees pointed out the facility doesn’t meet the last of eight siting criteria the Ag Department considers, and they question whether the construction is ‘consistent with projects involving community growth.’

Meanwhile, the Illinois Livestock Development Group, which supports the project, states the proposed facility does meet all eight citing criteria and that no immediate neighbors to the site have spoken out to the owners/operators about any opposing concerns.

The Ford County Record reports the County Board initially voted 4-8 in support of the project and then 8-4 not to support it.

The state Department of Ag has the ulitimate say on the matter.
