Ford County militia members plead guilty to terrorist acts, other crimes

Two East Central Illinois men from Ford County who admitted their roles in firebombing an Islamic mosque in Minnesota, and trying to firebomb a women's health clinic in Champaign are facing lengthy prison terms.

No sentencing dates have been set for 23-year-old Joseph Morris and 29-year-old Michael McWhorter. Both men are from Clarence. They’re looking at 35 years to life in prison for their roles in violent crimes as members of a homegrown terrorist group.

In federal court in St. Paul, MN Thursday, the men pleaded guilty to several charges filed against them in Minnesota and Illinois last year.

Prosecutors say Morris and McWhorter were members of a militia group dubbed "Patriot Freedom Fighters" believed to be headed by 47-year-old Michael Hari of Clarence.

Hari remains jailed in Livingston County Jail in the Central District of Illinois and is currently set to be tried in Urbana beginning July 15.
