Ford County officials address felled wind turbine

Concern about spilled-oil contaminating the soil in Paxton has some worried about health-related issues. The oil is from a collapsed wind turbine that crashed to the ground last week. The turbine is on the ground while work crews wait for the ground to dry out from all the rain before clean-up can get started.

Officials in Paxton claim there’s no worry right now. Damage assessments don’t confirm any oil spill, but that’s yet to be determined.

A leaning tower at the Prairie Trail Wind Farm fell to the ground, creating a potential spill. Ford County EMA Coordinator Terry Whitebird reports the wind farm workers will evaluate the wreckage next week – once the soil is dried out and inspected.

An EPA report was sent to the local EMA office as a precaution. There’s been no evidence that the turbine is leaking oil.
