Ford County opens warming centers >

Warming centers are available in Ford County for citizens to escape the cold. Life-threatening weather conditions will be around a couple of days and the warming centers will be open thru Friday.

Record low temps hit -19 at WGFA Radio this (Wednesday) morning. That included wind chill readings at -45. The old record low was in 1966 at -14.

The Paxton Emergency Management Agency building at 134 W. State Street is open to escape the cold. Other county-wide facilities may be open as well. The County EMA office can provide a list of sites.

In Roberts, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will be available to anyone who may need some warmth on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Also, the Roberts fire station is open as a shelter during business hours from 8a ‘til 5p today (Wednesday) and Thursday, In Gibson City, Gibson Area Hospital will be open as a warming center at all times as the frigid temperatures continue.
