Ford County votes down school funding proposition

Gibson City OK’s sales tax hike for new pool

It can be difficult for any community to approve two new tax hike proposals, but it was on the ballot in Ford County Tuesday. Voters approved one in Gibson City while a countywide school tax failed.

The county’s 1% tax for schools failed. Numbers showed 56% of voters (1,531) said NO. Forty-four percent (1,211) voted in favor. GCMS, PBL and the Tri-Point School Districts now will have to find other means to fund programs.

Citizens of Gibson City voted in favor of a 1% sales tax increase for infrastructure updates to support a new swimming pool. Number show 457 (57%) supported the measure while 350 (43%) said NO.
