Ford County could be getting up to four-dozen more wind turbines in the next year.
The county Zoning Office has received a special-use permit application for the Dogtown Wind Project. It’s proposing a 100-megawatt wind farm that would cover over 61-hundred acres. The location is just south of the existing Pioneer Trail Wind farm.
Two companies have partnered to form Dogtown Wind LLC. Stewardship Energy, based in Bureau County, and an energy company in France have agreements to own and operate the proposed wind farm.
Up to 49 more turbines could be built east of Paxton. It would increase the number of turbines to 143 along Illinois Route 9. All the turbines would be in Ford County, in Patton and Button Townships.
