Frigid temps this week; health officials urge caution

Frigid, single-digit temperatures will be around through at least mid-week.  The winter season's first cold snap took hold Sunday.  The NWS says temps may reach the mid 30s by the end of the week.

Health officials and the Red Cross advising pople to be ready and dress proper for the cold.  Wear layers of lightweight clothing to stay warm. Gloves and a hat will help prevent the loss of body heat.  Know the signs of hythothermia, including confusion, dizziness, exhaustion and severe shivering. Watch for signs of frostbite.  Bring pets indoors, if possible. 

Fire officials also warn about heating devices. Never use a stove or oven to heat your home.  Carbon monoxide may result which could be fatal.  And be careful using space heaters.
