The search for a fugitive in Gilman is over.  Joel T. Smith is in custody and jailed in Watseka.

Iroquois County Sheriff Sergeant Eric Starkey announced late last night that Joel Smith was arrested just after 11 p.m. The arrest of the 33-year-old Michigan man ended a search that lasted 36 hours and involved over 75 members of law enforcement.

Other details about the arrest and where it happened are not yet available. Smith is jailed on a $2-million bond.

Smith had been on the run since Wednesday after an alleged assault of a female onboard an Amtrak train.
