Memorial Day kicks off the summer driving season. And the holiday is now less than a month away. True to form, as the driving season approaches, gas prices are jumping up.

Local prices in Iroquois County jumped a sudden 12 cents a gallon in the last 10 days. A quick surge saw prices go from $3.46 to $3.58 a gallon. Then, another bump up to $3.60. Prices at the pump jumped 20-cents a gallon in the Danville area.  Motorists who had been paying $3.55 a gallon for regular unleaded on Tuesday are finding the price at the pump has jumped to $3.75 at many locations.

Gas prices have been continuing to rise across the state of Illinois. The Triple-A says drivers nationwide have been paying the lowest springtime gas prices in three years. Illinois gas prices are the third highest in the nation.  And if you head into the Chicago area, you will find the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.32 a gallon.
