GCMS Falcons win 2A football state title

The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley football program made history (Friday) in Dekalb.

The Falcons staged a second half rally to earn a 38-32 victory against Maroa-Forsyth in the Class 2A state championship game at Huskie Stadium. It was the football program's first-ever state championship.

GCMS finishes 14-0 on the season, capping a final drive against the Trojans (12-2). GCMS scored the winning touchdown with just over a minute left to play.

Trailing 32-30, the Falcons offense wen t the length of the field with a little more than six minutes left. Bryce Barnes made an acrobatic 23-yard touchdown catch off a pass from quarterback Nathan Garard with 1:o8 to go on the clock.

The Falcons' defense did it own more time, stopping Maroa-Forsyth in its own territory to seal the championship win.
