Former Governor George Ryan is being released from federal custody today. It's a day earlier before his original scheduled parole date.
The Daily-Journal reports Ryan's July 4th parole date was pushed forward because of the holiday.
The 79-year-old Ryan served more than five years in federal prison for corruption. He was allowed to return to his Kankakee home in January, but has been on home confinement.
Ryan was sentenced in 2006 to 6 and a-half years for corruption. He's considered a free man today. He's required only to report to a parole officer for the next year.
