Gibson City golf course could become farmground

The now-shuttered Railside Golf Course at Gibson City could be turned into 197 acres of farmland, if the property isn’t sold – soon.

Owner Doug Brucker has the property for sale. Some investors have shown interest, but nothing is real solid. And the News-Gazette reports, the once popular 18-hole course could be farmland.

The fate of the sport-green rekindles sour memories of the popular Bon Vi Vant golf course in Bourbonnais – which also went away and was plowed under years ago.

Brucker points out he’s not alone. Several once-popular and busy golf courses (and accommodating resorts) are For Sale these days --- the sport just not thriving like it once was.

A committee of investors has been studying the Railside situation since it was closed last September.
The property was listed at $2.288 million by Minion Real Estate in Gibson City.

The property listing includes the 18-hole course, 5,000 square foot clubhouse and pro-shop. There’s also a restaurant, lounge and banquet facility.
