A boil order that was in effect for Gibson City has been lifted ! City officials announced today (Friday) that the boil order put in place Thursday after a water main break forced repair crews to complete a major project, near the city water plant.
Officials said the repair was completed quickly, but the boil order was issued for the safety of citizens. The water main break in Gibson City happened as all of east-central Illinois had to deal with a declared drought. Wells have been running low in Gibson City since the town isn’t located on the Mahomet aquifer. The lack of rain results in wells running low.
City officials (Wednesday) enacted a city-wide ordinance prohibiting watering lawns and yards until further notice.
