A farming accident Tuesday evening in Iroquois County killed a Gilman farmer. 47-year-old Vaughn Borchers died of injuries he received in the accident.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup reported the victim was pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana just before 9 pm Tuesday night.

The Coroner said Borchers died of traumatic injuries he received from being pulled into the corn head of his combine while working on it in a farm field near Gilman. Northrup said Mr. Borchers' son was present when it happened.

Ambulance personnel and Gilman Fire were dispatched to the scene. Borchers was taken to Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka and immediately air-lifted by helicopter to Carle.

Northrup said no autopsy would be performed.

Services are pending at Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman.
