It’s prison time for a man who sexually assaulted a girl onboard an Amtrak train over two years ago in Iroquois County.
36-year-old Joel Smith pleaded guilty to the criminal sexual assault.  He was sentenced to nine years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.  An Iroquois County trial was scheduled to begin (Wednesday 3/12), when Smith entered the plea to the 2022 case.
Smith was the subject a manhunt in the Gilman area when he fled from an Amtrak train at the Gilman stop. Several law enforcement officials were part of the manhunt, before Smith was tracked down and taken into custody.
