Good Shepherd group home resident found dead in van

The death of a resident at the Good Shepherd group home in Momence is under investigation. Charles Laughlin’s death was discovered Sunday. He was found unresponsive in a van.

Kankakee County sheriff's police are investigating the death of a 69-year-old man.
According to Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner, the preliminary cause of Charles Laughlin's death was heat exhaustion.

Laughlin and other residents had returned from a shopping trip, Gessner said. Laughlin was found when an employee went to move the van at 5:15 p.m. He may have been left in the van by accident.

High temperature readings were at 93 degrees Sunday.
The administration at Good Shepherd is reviewing its procedures for tracking residents on-and-off the grounds.
