Republicans have named their person for the vacancy in the 75th House seat in Illinois.
Kendall County sheriff's deputy John D. Anthony was appointed Monday to fill the seat vacated when state Representative Pam Roth, R-Morris, resigned.
Anthony will become the first African-American GOP member of the Legislature since 1983 when he's sworn in next Monday. He is also part Puerto Rican.
The 37-year-old Anthony, who lives in the Kendall County portion of Joliet, will serve out the remainder of Roth's term, which ends in January 2015.
Anthony indicated he would seek a full term by running in the 2014 election.
Roth announced her resignation in late July after her husband was transferred to a new job in Texas. The resignation was effective Monday.
