Gov. Pritzker signs police reform bill, HB 3653
Governor JB Pritzker (Monday) signed a sweeping criminal justice reform package into law. The massive piece of legislation creates statewide standards for police use of force, requires police body cameras, ends cash bail in many cases and revamps the certification system for officers. There has been a lot of push-back from law enforcement, with opponents arguing these change will make communities less safe, pose a threat to victims and make it more difficult for police to do their job.
