Grundy County Sheriff Deputy Shot

A sheriff deputy in Grundy County is hospitalized after he was shot three times while attempting a traffic stop.  The deputy was shot in the arm. Two other rounds were stopped by the deputy's bullet-proof vest.  Sheriff Ken Briley report the deputy is doing well, in stable condition at Morris Community Hospital.

A Joliet teenager is in custody.  18-year-old DeMarcus Dinwiddie drove off from the stop at Route 113 and Route 47 south of Morris.  The teen was involved in two separate crashes before coming to a stop near Mazon (IL).  Sheriff Briley said Dinwiddie fired shots at the deputy while fleeing on foot.  Dinwiddle was later taken into custody during a SWAT situation at an apartment in Mazon.

The deputy has been a member of the Grundy County department for five years and is a K-9 handler.
