Vermilion County Republican state Representative Chad Hays isn't waiting until next January to get out of his job in the General Assembly. Hays announced that he would resign in September after getting a new job. The lawmaker was one of the Republicans to vote in favor of last summer's tax increases.

Meanwhile, another retiring lawmaker is changing his mind. State Rep. Steve Andersson has put his hat in the ring to replace the retiring state senator in his area. Andersson not only voted in favor of last July's tax hikes but convinced many other Republicans to join Democrats in overriding Gov. Rauner's veto of the bills.
