Health officials pause use of Johnson & Johnson vaccine

Illinois is following the CDC and FDA guidance, advising providers to use Moderna and Pfizer COVID doses for existing coronavirus vaccines appointments.  The Illinois Department of Public Health is announcing the pause in the use of Johnson & Johnson vaccine out of an abundance of caution.  The CDC and the FDA are reviewing data involving six reported cases of a rare and severe type blood clot in individuals after receiving the J&J vaccine.

The IDPH has notified all providers to discontinue the use of the J7J vaccine at this time.  In order to keep appointments, officials strongly advise providers to use the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines.
