Area school district websites are posting early dismissal times for today and Tuesday due to excessive heat. A Heat Advisory is in effect from mid-morning 'til 10 pm.

The National Weather Service advises residents to take it easy in the heat. A Heat Advisory has been posted for a large area of Central Illinois. Areas to the south are under an Excessive Heat Warning, with heat-index readings expected to reach 105 to 110. The heat-index is how hot it feels when you factor the heat and humidity together.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will lead to an increased risk of heat related stress and illness. The National Weather Service urges citizens to take precautions in this heat. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

Children and pets should never be left unattended in a vehicle.
