The excessive Heat Warning gripping the area this past week has finally loosened. Relief arrived about mid-day Sunday with a thunderstorm that dumped in excess of two-inches of rain in some parts of east-central Illinois.
The WGFA studio recorded 1.8 inches. At Iroquois, 2.04 was recorded. Martinton checked in with 1.60, Kankakee and Buckingham received 1.25 inches, Wellington, Woodland and Earl Park, In had .55 inches of rain.
High temperatures (Sunday) were near 90 degrees before the heavy rain came.
Thunderstorms locally were severe enough to prompt the NWS to issue watches and warnings. There’s a chance of more showers and thunderstorms today (Monday) but temperatures will be much cooler. Mondays’ high will be near 80. Tuesday and Wednesday should bring a sunny sky with temps in the low 80’s.
