A section of a wind turbine headed for Champaign County on a semi-trailer crashed in Iroquois County early Tuesday evening.
Illinois State Police District 21 are reporting that troopers handled the crash at 6:14 p.m. Tuesday evening on Illinois Route 49, just south of 1120 North. The truck involved in the crash, a 2006 Peterbilt truck, pulling two semi-trailers was loaded with 101,000 pounds of building material for a windmill support base. The vehicle was traveling southbound when one of the semi-trailers experienced a mechanical failure that led the driver of the truck to lose control of the vehicle. The truck ran off the roadway and overturned. The vehicle came to rest on its passenger side in a nearby field.
No injuries were reported by the driver, Alfred Damm, 49, of Saint Cloud, Minnesota.
