High winds fuel rural field fires

Weekend winds contributed to the spread of several fires in rural sections of Illinois and Indiana.  Several area fire departments were busy Saturday and Sunday trying to control spreading flames and save crops.  Damage estimates won't be readily available, but several acres were affected.  Fire departments in east-central Illinois and west-central Indiana were assisted by farms discs and other farm machinery to break up the momentum of the spreading flames.  There were no reports of injury.  The NWS also reported intense winds that clouded officials monitoring of atmospheric conditions.
