Homicide Investigation in Newton County

A Wheatfield, IN is dead and a Morocco, IN husband and wife are charged in his murder.  Newton County Sheriff's Police are asking for information concerning last Thursday's shooting death of 37-year-old Dennis Griede at a rural residence in Newton County.

Newton County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched last Thursday 5/22 at 1 am to a residence at County Road 50S, west of U.S. 41 in reference to a person being shot.  Dennis Griede was found having suffered gunshot wounds. He died from his wounds at a local hospital.

Sheriff Cothran said an extensive investigation led to the arrest of 40-year-old Matthew DeYoung and his wife, 35-year-old Theresa DeYoung, both of Morocco.

Matthew DeYoung is charged with felony counts of Murder, Criminal Recklessness, Obstruction of Justice and Neglect of a Dependent.

Theresa DeYoung faces felony counts of Criminal Recklessness, Neglect of a Dependent, Obstruction of Justice, and a misdemeanor charge of False Informing.

The DeYoung couple are being held at the Newton County Jail without bond.
