The Illinois House of Representatives (Wednesday) approved a Resolution designating a portion of Illinois Route 1 from Wickert Road to St. Anne as the "Honorary Jack Sikma Road." The Resolution is sponsored by Represenative Jackie Haas of Kankakee.
Jack Sikma grew up in the Wichert area, attended St. Anne High School, then went on to Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington. There, he was a three-time All-Conference standout and became a seven-time NBA All-Star with the Seattle SuperSonics. The NBA team drafted Sikma in the first round with the 8th overall pick of the 1977 NBA draft.
The measure moves to the Senate where it's expected to be approved with the sponsorship from Senator Patrick Joyce.
