Hoopeston inmate dies in Vermilion County Jail

An autopsy was scheduled in Vermilion County after a jail inmate died Sunday inside the Public Safety Building at Danville.  43-year-old Joshua Edwards of Hoopeston was found unresponsive in his cell Sunday morning.  A correctional officer found Edwards. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful.  He was pronounced dead around 11:15 am.

Coroner Jane McFadden and the Illinois State Police are investigating.  Records show Edwards was jailed since June of 2020 facing domestic battery charges in separate incidents. He also had pending criminal cases for criminal damage to property, trespassing and battery and traffic charges.
