A suspect is now in custody in connection with the fatal shooting of a Danville woman earlier this month.
32-year-old Johnnie Sampson of Hoopeston faces 4-counts of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of 30-year-old Mary Thompson.
The Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office and Public Safety Director Larry Thomason confirmed that Sampson is being held without bond.
Mary Thompson was found inside a car at a housing complex (at Clyman Lane and Fowler Avenue) when police arrived on the scene August 5th. She died the following evening at Carle Foundation Hospital.
Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said Thompson died from a gunshot wound to the head.
‘’Working with the Hoopeston Police Department, U.S. Marshal’s Service and VMEG officers, Danville Detectives arrested Mr. Sampson in the 1200 block of Daisy Lane in Hoopeston,’’ said Thomason. ‘’There was no resistance with the arrest.’’
The investigation into the murder case continues and detectives have other persons of interest.
