Hopkins Park shooting leaves 2 dead, 3 injured

A shooting late Friday night in Hopkins Park left two men dead and three other men wounded. The Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.

It was just before midnight when several reports of gunfire alerted sheriff deputies and several neighboring police agencies. A press release from the Sheriff’s department state police responded to 13100 East Central Street.

Officers located large groups of people that were present at a nearby banquet hall. The press release stated many of the people there were fleeing the scene. Officers located five victims with gunshot wounds, two died…one at the scene and one at a local hospital.

The Kankakee County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 32-year-old Edward E. Colon of Chicago, and 44-year-old Milton J. Sykes of Kankakee.
Autopsies on both individuals were completed Saturday, and determined both individuals died from multiple gunshot wounds.
