House fire displaces occupant, Red Cross assisting

Four fire departments battled a single-story house fire south of Watseka Wednesday. No injury was reported, but the house was destroyed. The American Red Cross is providing help.

County records show the house is owned by Travis Burger of Watseka. The renter was identified as Paul Guittierez.

Woodland Fire Chief Bill Tucker said the rural slick roads made it difficult to get to the scene, firemen were forced to use back roads because a bridge is out service near 1631 N and 2280 E. Tucker reported the cause is unknown. Firemen found the house already engulfed when they arrived.

The call was answered at 3:03 pm. Firefighters were on the scene until 9 pm. Mutual aid for Woodland came from Crescent City, Milford and Watseka.
