House fire in Kankakee displaces family

A house fire in Kankakee Saturday chased a family from its home on Chicago Avenue. The American Red Cross is assisting the family. No injury was reported, according to Fire Chief Damon Schuldt.

Schuldt reported a man and two juveniles were at home at approximately 4 p.m. A neighbor alerted the man who got the juveniles out of the house. Damage was confined to the first-floor kitchen area with smoke damage throughout the first floor. Damage estimated were estimated at $7,000. The fire chief said the fire appeared to accidental.
