How to help those in need in Kankakee County

The Kankakee County Emergency Management Agency has received numerous requests from private citizens, as well as business owners, wishing to donate to those impacted by last night’s storms.  For those needing resources, Grace Baptist in Aroma Park (2499 Waldron Rd, Kankakee, IL) has a power-charging station provided by ComEd. Snacks/water, buckets for cleanup, bags, gloves, etc. are also at Grace Baptist that were donated by Home Depot, Lowes and Our Home.

A reminder that the Kankakee Community College has been set up by the American Red Cross as a temporary shelter/lodging from those displaced by the storms.

For those wishing to provide monetary donations (Emergency Response Fund of Kankakee/Iroquois Counties), you can do so at https://www.myunitedway.org/disaster

More information, particularly that regarding debris removal will be provided as soon as it becomes available. Stay tuned to the Sheriff’s Office social media sites for additional updates

PLEASE be aware of individuals posing as repairmen, contractors, etc & other that are looking to take advantage of residents after a weather disaster.  Contact local authorities, county code enforcement, & more if you suspect someone's trying to defraud you.

Dear Chamber Members,

Following the severe weather in our area, we wanted to share several resources that may be helpful as our community continues recovery efforts.

First, we would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the emergency response teams who worked throughout the storm and its aftermath to keep our community safe. We are grateful for the dedication of our first responders, public works crews, and all those assisting with recovery efforts.

For the most up-to-date information from Emergency Response, the Sheriff’s Department, and the County Board, we encourage members to follow the County Board’s Facebook page, where they will be sharing timely updates, safety information, and response efforts.

We are also passing along information and resources from the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DCEO), along with additional resources that may assist businesses and residents who may have been impacted.

Response and recovery coordination is being handled through the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, and Office of Homeland Security and local emergency management partners, and formal damage assessments and disaster declarations can take some time to unfold.
